Philodendron squamicaule is a beautiful, rare and newly described species with ovate-triangular leaves emerge in a light salmon pink color and hardens off to a stunning medium to dark green color. The petioles are a beautiful bright red, densely packed hairs along the petiole.
Philodendron squamicaule is closely related to Philodendron serpens. For Philodendron serpens, the posterior ribs are glabrous (smooth). There may be a few hairs present, though. In contrast, Philodendron squamicaule has hairy posterior ribs and it will extend beyond the portion that is naked.
